What to expect of the Daintree River, coast and reef, as experienced by Jamie
In the tropics the seasons are better referred to as Pre-wet (September-December), Wet (January-March) and Post wet or winter season (April-August), with the peak tourism period occurring over the winter season.
The Pre-Wet season involves a reef fin species spawning closure for around 10 days in each month of October, November and December, during which it is prohibited to target reef fin species. Jamie or Edie can advise you of the particular dates, as they vary each year.
Closed Barramundi season on the Qld east coast commences on the 1st Nov and reopens February 1st each year. This is their main spawning season, and as they have an aggressive appetite during this time, they tend to be easier to catch, but must be released promptly and unharmed after a photograph.
All year round, we recommend sun screen, light weight and full length clothing, sunglasses (polarized are the best), and a hat. Tropical strength insect repellant is provided by Jamie.
