The warmer months of September to December are active fishing months, and the best time to chase barramundi and other warm water species as they gear up for their spawning season. If good rainfall causes the first freshwater in the Daintree, most estuary species start to make their way downstream to head to the saltwater, making most fishing charters a surprise of variety.
Crocodiles tend to be harder to spot as they spent more time in the water. This time of year is when they become more active as the water temperature rises, and they are considering mating, so it’s particularly important to be “croc wise”. The migratory birds such as Torres Strait Pigeons and Buff Breasted Paradise Kingfishers arrive in the area over this time.
